Madrid Open : Djokovic beat Nishikori in the First Round




Madrid - Twice champion Novak Djokovic made it to the second round. Featured on 10th place, Djokovic defeated Japan's top-ranked Kei Nishikori straight set.

Compete in Caja Magica on Monday (7/5/2018), Djokovic beat Nishikori with the score 7-5, 6-4 in the first round. The former world number one scored 26 winners to sharpen his lead over the opponent in 12-2.

Furthermore, Djokovic will face the winner between Kyle Edmund against Daniil Medvedev for a place in the last 16.

Facing Nishikori, Djokovic broke his opponent twice to take the first set in 66 minutes.

Djokovic took advantage of the 26 unforced errors Nishikori made in this match. In the tenth game of the second set, Nishikori releases a long backhand to ensure Djokovic's victory.

Djokovic looked close to his best rhythm after a long absence due to an elbow injury. The 30-year-old suffered a tough time in the early years after being knocked out in the early rounds of Indian Wells and Miami Masters, then Monte Carlo's last 16th-half into the first round at the Barcelona Open.

In Madrid, Djokovic has appeared as champion in 2011 and 2016.
