Barcelona - World number one Rafael Nadal has not been halted on clay. After the champion in Monte Carlo, Nadal again lifted the trophy in Barcelona.
At the top party at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Sunday (29/04/2018) NNTAL was facing 19-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas. The left-handed Spaniard appeared dominant from start to finish to crush his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
For Nadal, it's the eleventh title in this tournament or the 77th in his career to match John McEnroe. Only Jimmy Connors (109), Roger Federer (97), and Ivan Lendl (94), who have more degrees than Nadal in the Open era.
This title became the second for Nadal in clay season, after the champions in Monte Carlo also for the 11th time.
Nadal appeared so mighty before Tsitsipas. Neat performance Nadal failed to offset the Greek tennis player who many make their own mistakes. In a 77 minute duel, Tsitsipas made 23 unforced errors.
Thus, Nadal will still retain the world number one ranking with 500 points produced. However, if Nadal loses in the next tournaments, his ranking will drop to number two behind Federer.
Furthermore, Nadal is scheduled to attend the Madrid Open which starts on 7 May.
