Monte Carlo - World number one Rafael Nadal appears dominant to qualify for the semi-finals. Nadal crushed Dominic Thiem's resistance by losing just two games.
Compete at Court Ranier III on Friday (20/4/2018) night local time, Nadal dominated Thiem from start to finish to win straight sets with the score 6-0, 6-2.Nadal, the top seed, played neatly and accurately to break Thiem's serve in the first set. Thiem did not show the best performance after only able to enter 38 percent of his first serve and win half of the points.
Nadal broke Thiem's serve early in the second set to a 3-0 lead. The Austrian finally broke the egg in the 10th game to dilute the drop to 1-3.
For the first time, Thiem was able to maintain his serve in a row despite still 2-4 left. However, Nadal is not stopped. This left-hander broke Thiem's serve in the eighth game and sealed victory after an opponent's return punch hit the net.Furthermore, Nadal will fight a ticket to the final with fourth seeded Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian qualified after beating sixth seed David Goffin straight set 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Head-to-head Nadal led a landslide victory over Dimitrov 10-1, including winning the last three meetings on hard court in 2017. Dimitrov's only victory over Nadal took place in the quarter-finals of the 2016 China Open.
