MotoGP: Marquez Sentenced to Three Grid Penalties




Austin - Marc Marquez will not start from pole position in the Austin MotoGP race. Repsol Honda's rider was sentenced to a three-grid penalty for the incident with Maverick Vinales.

Marquez became the fastest in the qualifying session at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) on Sunday (4/22/2018). He beat Vinales and Andrea Iannone in position 2-3.


But Marquez closed the session with the status investigated race director. In a moment, the world champion was blocking the pace of Vinales who is actually expected to record the fastest time.

As a result Vinales canceled his round and looked annoyed at Marquez. Marquez himself was doing a second round of preparation with the motor, after falling before.

Shortly after qualifying ended, MotoGP announced that Marquez was sentenced to three grid penalties. This means he did not start from the leading position and will start the race from fourth position.
